Belgian fruit and vegetables
FRESH.belgium is an initiative of the Association of Belgian Horticultural Cooperatives (VBT.eu).
The name of our organisation speaks for itself: we are a cooperative, joining together people and organisations in every sense of the word. The notion of a cooperative is embedded in the DNA of all our member cooperatives. Every day we make sure they connect with each other, and we also make connections with the wider society. Collaboration is key for us, which is why we organise collective actions. We constantly ask ourselves: how do we make progress together?
For both our producers and our clients, a cooperative provides a major added value: thanks to us, producers can go to the market together, always have a sales market, and receive professional guidance. This gives clients as well as consumers in Belgium and abroad the certainty that they will keep buying high-quality products.
And our cooperative approach brings us to this collective project: the FRESH.belgium platform.
The main objectives of the platform are:
- To bring cooperatives and exporters closer to clients in a widely accessible, transparent and easy way – even if it is ‘virtual’.
- To strengthen relationships. Personal contact. The possibility to meet each other, also virtually.
- To give clients a clear picture of what we have to offer, for example at a trade show.
- To display our expertise and share knowledge, in interaction with each other, for example at a congress.
Belgium, and more specifically Flanders, is an important export region for fruit and vegetables, for nearby European markets as well as new, more faraway sales regions. We deploy our efforts actively into existing and new export markets, focusing on a variety of product/land combinations – a must for the sustainable development of the Belgian fruit and vegetable sector.
